A new Search Engine is going to launch , somewhere in May 2009 , introduced on March 5, 2009. It is based on mathmatical algorithm s and heuristics. This search engine will give you the right answer for a qustion not a amount of pages which contains single words or combinaitons of words.

Before this itwas realised that Google is failed to respond the factual questions and to solve the problem, developer of "Mathmatica" and "NKS" Ed Tech's Scientist Stephen Wolfram stands up on March 5, 2009 with new search engine "Wolfram Alpha" and going to be launched in May 2009.

In order to provide the answers of factual qustions they tried to implement methods and models. algorithms and explicity curate all data to make it computable, e.g. if any user want to know the number of neutrons in helium atom , he will get the exact answer in natural language.

As per the version of its creators, this is a system that computes the answers to the questions by using the buil in models of field of knowledge, compelte with data and algorithm , which represents real knowledge.

In simpler term we can say that this could be a global store of information that understand and responds to ordinary language in the same way a person does.

"With Mathematica, I had a symbolic language to represent anything, as well as the algorithmic power to do any kind of computation. And with NKS, I had a paradigm for understanding how all sorts of complexity could arise from simple rules," Stephen wrote in a blog posting.
Wolfram explained that, with a mixture of Mathematica and NKS automation, and expert human help, he has been able to create a system that "knows a lot, and can figure a lot out".
He added that thanks to "algorithms and heuristics, lots of linguistic discovery and linguistic curation, and some serious theoretical breakthroughs", the system also understands natural human language when used to ask it questions.
Wolfram Alpha is due for launch in May, and will be a simple web site with a single input field.

Google Squared

May12, 2009 was the historical moment in Google history, when at searchology event, launched a new searching tool named Google Squared. This is the best effort in web 3.0 and semantic seacrh.
It is the effort of structuring the unstructred data on web pages and in process they extract data from the web pages and presents the search results as squares in an online spreadsheet format.
The San Francisco Chronicle described the feature in a bit more detai that it compiles details from several Web pages and organizes them into a table on a single page, with multiple columns like a spread sheet.
One of the features announced today is called Search Options, which is a collection of tools designed to let users better "slice and dice" their search results so they can manipulate the information they're getting. Mayer said the tools should help people who struggle with what exactly what query they should pose.
"Let's say you are looking for forum discussions about a specific product, but are most interested in ones that have taken place more recently," she wrote. "That's not an easy query to formulate, but with Search Options you can search for the product's name, apply the option to filter out anything but forum sites, and then apply an option to only see results from the past week."
One Search Options tool is geared toward giving users more information when they do a search. For instance, instead of just getting results in text form, they could have the search engine return images as well.
Google acknowledged that this was still very much a “labs” feature that was imperfect at best. However, between Wolfram Alpha, Google’s efforts in semantic search, and a host of competitors that will be popping up in this field, we may very well be on the edge of Search 3.0. This is good news for our students, teachers, and library scientists struggling to help our students get the information they want from the billions of pages of junk (and millions of pages of interest) floating around the web.

In that same layer Google also is adding more information to its results snippets -- those little pieces of text that tell you about the site that's been pulled up. If you're searching for a hotel, for example, the snippet won't just tell you the name of the hotel and where it is -- now it could tell you its price range, number of stars in customer reviews and the number of reviews listed.
Google Squared still needs a lot of improvement, which is why it's being released to Labs. It collects the information by looking for structures that seem to imply facts. The squares are built out based on high probability of facts.
There will be concerns over Google providing this data on its own by grabbing data and serving it up without sending searchers to the sites that provided the info.

Elsevier launches German language version of clinical reference tool MD Consult

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced the launch of DoctorConsult (http://www.doctorconsult.de), the German language version of its professional clinical reference tool, MD Consult. The move is part of Elsevier’s expanded efforts to provide interactive clinical reference and clinical decision support (CDS) tools to new markets in Europe. The launch of DoctorConsult is seen to make Elsevier the first multi-lingual professional clinical reference product provider.The customised products are seen to meet the cultural needs of users who do not speak English as a first language, and address specific medical practice needs within different countries. The Internet-based products provide users with a full range of medical information covering a variety of clinical needs. In one integrated interface, users can now access evidence-based immediately actionable 'quick answers' (i.e. Elsevier's FirstConsult) as well as background references such as books and full text journal articles suitable for more in-depth research. Additional localised versions of MD Consult are in development for Italy, France and Spain.The Consult suite of multilingual reference products is one of several solutions being developed to meet local reference, point-of-care, workflow and decision support needs. Additional solutions in development include Clinical Decision Support; guidelines and best practice information delivered when and where they are most useful at the point of care; leveraging of patient data to pinpoint the most needed information for a given clinical task; drug information and safety checking, also linked to patient data when possible; seamless content integration with Electronic Health Records, including info buttons and alerts; payer services; retrospective analytics for identifying performance gaps and outliers; and tools to influence provider behaviour.According to Elsevier, the company is well positioned to replicate its success in the US in other markets as well. The company further noted that European e-health markets and Elsevier's positions within them are at an earlier stage of development than in the US. While market dynamics are different, key underlying market forces are similar to those in the US, particularly the drive to contain costs and improve outcomes, and the rapid increase in Internet usage by healthcare practitioners.

The Web page search function is provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the "Explore Selected Science Websites by Topic" portion of the site is maintained by the CENDI Secretariat. The Science.gov Website is hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which also supplies the site's "deep Web search" capability.
History
Science.gov 1.0 was launched in December 2002, providing for the first time wide public access and a unified search of the government's vast stores of scientific and technical information. Science.gov is an interagency initiative of 17 U.S. government science organizations within 13 Federal agencies. These agencies form the voluntary Science.gov Alliance.
In May 2004 Version 2.0 was launched, introducing real-time relevancy ranking to government science retrieval. This technology, funded by the Department of Energy, helps citizens sort through the government's reservoirs of research and return results most likely to meet individual needs. An advanced search capability and other enhancements were added.
A free and convenient "Alert" service was released in February 2005, allowing citizens to receive e-mail alerts about the most current science developments in their areas of interest. Up to 25 relevant results from selected information sources can be delivered. Results are displayed in the Alert email and in a personalized Alert Archive, which stores six weeks of alerts results. In the Archive, past activity can be reviewed and Alert profiles edited.
Science.gov 3.0 took relevancy ranked search to a higher level of precision. Launched in November 2005, Version 3.0 provided more refined search queries of federal science databases. In addition, greatly enhanced fielded searching and the extensive Boolean capabilities offer new search options for Science.gov users.
In February 2007, Science.gov 4.0 was launched, which allowed even further refinement of search queries. For the first time, patrons could search within their original results. In addition, the relevancy ranking algorithms became more sophisticated, providing ranking of the entire full text of documents on sites where searchable full text resides. Date of the document was priority-weighted for ranking purposes. A new feature allows patrons to share search results via e-mail with colleagues and friends.
Science.gov 5.0 was launched in September 2008 and boasts several new and innovative features. Clustering, the grouping of results into meaningful topics, helps guide patrons to desired information. Science.gov results have also been enhanced by the addition of Wikipedia topics and EurekAlert items related to the search. Additionally, selected results can be emailed to colleagues and friends, and the overall look and feel has been updated.
